We collect as little as we can, we never sell it, and we follow the Australian Privacy Principles.
Kept on your phone, not with us
If you tap to fine-tune your weather to your exact location, it's rounded to about a kilometre and saved on your phone. It's used for your weather and to find fuel near you, never stored by us, and you can reset it any time. Your postcode, which sections you show or hide, your school and your birthday (day and month only) are saved in your own browser. If you sign in, your page settings (what you pin, show or hide, your stars, the events you like, saved searches and bin night) are also saved to your account, so they follow you to any phone. Your location, school, birthday and friends’ clocks stay on your phone only. We never see them. Clear your browser data and they're gone.
What we do keep
- Weekly email or fridge sign-up: your email, first name if you give it, postcode and that you agreed to the email.
- Events and birthday offers: what you submit, plus a contact email so we can check details. The email is never shown publicly.
- Feedback: your message, and your name and email only if you add them.
- Fridge photo: if you snap your fridge, the photo goes to Cloudflare’s AI just long enough to spot the food, then it’s gone. We never store it.
- Kid Zone activity: visits, answers, scores and time spent in Kid Zone are saved only in that device's browser, so grown-ups can see them at /kids/log. They never come to us.
- Kid Zone secret word: if a grown-up sets one, we keep only a scrambled version of it on their account (never the word itself), plus a count of wrong guesses so they can see them. Remove it any time.
- Signing in: your name, email and, if you use Google, your Google profile photo, plus, if you sign in with email, the public photo and first name from your Gravatar profile if you have one (only what you've already made public there), plus when you first and last signed in. Google only tells us those basics, never your password. One cookie keeps you signed in on that phone for up to a year. Sign out any time.
We don't ask for anything about your family or personal life beyond the basic contact details needed to make the site work.
How we use it
To run the site, send the email you asked for, check submissions and reply to you. Your details may be used to tell you about Maverick Digital in the weekly email, which you can stop any time. We never sell, rent or trade your details, and when we carry ads one day, advertisers will never get your personal details or use them to target you.
Who else is involved
- Cloudflare hosts the site, stores our data and sends our emails. Like any website host, it processes basic visit data such as your internet address.
- Open-Meteo provides weather and tides. Your browser asks it for Byron Bay's forecast, so it sees a request from your device, but no personal details from us.
- If we move our email list to a mailing service, we'll name it here.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from any email at any time.
- Ask what we hold about you, ask us to fix it, or ask us to delete it, through the feedback form. We'll sort it within 30 days.
- Email sign-ups are for people aged 16 and over.
Keeping it safe
Data is stored on Cloudflare's secure systems and only Maverick Digital can access the admin area. If something ever goes wrong with your data, we'll tell you.
Not happy?
Tell us first through the feedback form. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
